Buern (BWAIRN)
Summary
One of the most ecologically diverse regions of Elzveir, Buern boasts sprawling savannahs, rolling green prairies, towering mountains, and widespread forests. Fainarr's staunch rejection of industry has hindered the progress of the nation, but has allowed much of its landscape to remain untouched by the smog and devastation that the industrial era has brought to many other parts of Aen. Instead, the land is broken up by the numerous villages and cities that have been hastily erected to support an evergrowing populace within the region.
Geography
Much of Buern is either flat or features smooth, rolling hills, otherwise unobstructed by jagged mountains and cliffs (save the southern edge, which is a tall cliffside over the water like much of Elzveir's southern space). Buern itself—as is the case with Aerdis and Zukei—has a gradual decline from the south to the north as it the region descends toward the Rossian Channel along its northern edge. There are mountains in the region, despite its largely flat topography, but these mountains form a perimeter around the region rather than obstructing passage within it, forming natural borders between this region and the region of Cyfrolaef to the west.
Divine Reach
A towering mountain range that blocks view of Cyfrolaef from much of Buern. It was once the tallest mountain range in the world of Aen, given the name "Staircase to the Gods" by the Buernish people prior to the Reckoning, but the crash of Cor'Athvaarn clipped a significant chunk of the peaks and flattening them, though erosion will turn them to mountain peaks again in time. While still magnificent, tales of their original height speak of extravagance that scraped the clouds above.Erakha Wood
Named for the hero Erakhan Makathune, the Stagbreaker and Deathdefier who fought in the final battle of the Reckoning, Erakha Wood was a grand forest that blankets northeastern Buern. The forest features mostly oak trees, though a few more distinctive bits of foliage can be found here as well.Esther Savanna
The Esther Savanna is an wide plain of grassland, featuring a few acacias and similar trees scattered throughout. This plain was named after one of the children of House Esther, as she was killed here during the Feud of the War King. Fainarr, in an effort to appease the people of Buern so as to limit their interest in revolution, has kept the name in spite of its origin.Lover's Branch
Lover's Branch is a small oepning in the Rossian Channel that eventually turns into smaller rivers. It received its name from the cities that sit along it: Adalville and Ancaton, cities inspired by the romantically-involved god of death and goddess of passion.Northwood
The Northwood is a forest that branches off from Erakha and spreads throughout central and northern Buern. The trees within it are more diverse than those of Erakha, but also less abundant. Meadows and grasslands break up much of the northwood, making it an optimal location for settlements and logging operations.Westreach
Originally the "Western Divine Reach over a thousand years before the Reckoning, Western Divine Reach became a misnomer when erosion and excavation led to the dismantling of the mountain range that connected Westreach to the Divine Reach, so the name was shortened to remove its association with the Divine Reach mountains in Aerdis to the east, resulting in the name Westereach. This is cluster of mountains stands tall north of the Westwood within Buern, though not so tall that its peaks are dotted with snow.Westwood
Along the southern edge of Buern, overlooking the sea below, is the Westwood: a dense but narrow forest featuring many flowering tropical trees.Simple Tips for Players/Writers
