Rossade (RAW-SADE)

This article is about the geographical region. To learn about the nation that occupies this region, visit the Principality of Rossade.

Rossade is the far-eastern third of the region once called the Unconquered North, given over to Fainarr following The Conquering of the North. This was the least desireable portion of northern Elzveir due to the predominance of mountains and monsters in the area, with only the narrow eastern edge being somewhat inhabitable from the start. While Fainarr has made great strides in allowing for life in the mountains of Rossade, it is still considered one of the worst places to live in Elzveir, plagued by sleet, ice, and regular monster attacks in spite of efforts to drive the creatures out of their home.

Geography

Set within the northeastern quadrant of Elzveir, this nation of colossal mountains and snowy forests was once part of the Unconquered North, but even in the days of the gaian tribes most did not reside within what would later become the Principality of Rossade due to its treacherous terrain and the monstrous denizens of the frost-covered region. Now, however, efforts from Fainarr to increase their hold on Elzveir has resulted in clearing out many (though not all) of the monsters that once called Rossade their home, making way for new settlements as deep in the western mountain range as the borders of Copari. Traversal may still be hazardous, but work to establish new routes is constant within the territory.

Aldur's Fangs

On the southern edge of Rossade, against the Rossian Channel, are 3 peninsulas, each wider than the previous, dubbed Aldur's Fangs in reference to Alduraxaes, the white dragon whose named served as inspiration for much of the north after Princess Karina conquered the region for herself. The trio of peninsulas are far enough south that they are not as snow-blanketed as the rest of Elzveir, though in the winter ice does form on the foliage of the region.

Avala's Rest

Avala's Rest is named after the heroine Lana Vahnce, a result of conflicting historical records that refer to her as both Lana and Ava on multiple occasions. She fought during the Reckoning and mysteriously vanished a few years after, leading many to presume her dead. A featherfolk matching her description was found in this mountain range in western Rossade (though it remains unclear if it really was her, and many historians speculate it was actually Lana faking her own death) shortly following her disappearance, and so the region was named after her, serving as a cap to the reach of the Spine of Aldur.

Lugnaf Boreal

Named after one of the generals from Fainarr who struck down a number of the traitor queen Karina's forces before a peace treaty was struck, Lugnaf Boreal is the only part of Rossade that was considered liveable from the beginning of Fainarr's occupation of the territory. This snowy, biodiverse forest has thrived not because of, but in spite of the presence of Fainarr and its populace. Foliage here grows thick and hardy, proving difficult to cut down, though it is worthwhile to do so as the hardiness of the trees makes them excellent for building long-lasting structures.
