Kaegn

(a.k.a. Minstrel, Holy Host)

Often described as the mascot of booze and bards, Kaegn is a masterful storyteller and lover, or so he and his followers have claimed. A true jokester and truer friend, Kaegn is a god of music and celebration, and some have argued that love is as much his domain as it is Ancara's. He doesn't seem to feel that way, however, as he has never vied for Ancara's power and did not put up a fight before signing the Pact of Eight that prohibits him from seizing her provinces upon her death. All signs point to Kaegn and Ancara being friends, but their followers tend not to be.

Appearance

Divine Form

Kaegn takes on the form of a remarkably handsome gnome with brilliant red hair. His body always carries a mild electric charge to it; it isn’t enough to harm anyone unless he wants it to, but it does send a jolt down the spine of anyone who touches him—and people want to touch him. Kaegn is shockingly (pun intended, as Kaegn would desire) handsome and always shows up looking like he just finished bathing, even to the point of wearing a loosely-tied velvet red robe, which he makes no effort to hold closed while he sips at a glass of red wine in either hand.

Avatar

Kaegn has never appeared in the same avatar twice. Instead, the Divine Lover tries out numerous forms on a regular basis. It is widely believed that he walks among mortals each night, taking on the appearance of someone he himself has found beautiful in the past so that he can enjoy a night out as a mortal rather than a deity. Many people have claimed that they spent a night with Kaegn, but it’s impossible to tell which stories are true and which ones are fabrications. Even those who have slept with Kaegn may not know if it really was a god or just a truly remarkable lover.

Holy Places

Kaegn is a widely revered and admired deity, meaning that he has a small temple in almost every city. No one has really constructed anything significant devoted to the god as those who would do so are often too busy partying, as Kaegn would have it. However, there is one significant place of worship devoted to the beloved god; this grand spire is found in Suorr as one might expect.

Troubadour's Tower

A grand, marginally curved, undeniably phallic tower rises from the cliffs west of Panvila, overlooking Baraka Fjord. On a cloudless day, one can even see beyond the peaks of the Spine of Aldur to the icy Gledd Sea. Troubadour's Tower is an interesting mixture of a college and temple, with many coming simply to study storytelling, songwriting, and dancing, while others devote themselves to worship of Kaegn... which really looks more like nightly benders than solemn prayer. Despite the casual nature of Kaegn and his worshippers, the educational aspect of the tower is actually quite strict. Many wish to study here, but few are deemed to be genuinely qualified to do so. The tower has been accused of only allowing attractive individuals to enter the college, but officials in the tower have remained adamant that this is mere coincidence.

Holidays

Kaegn’s followers treat nearly every day like a Hallowday, given their penchant for celebration and performance. However, there is one day each year that they go all out for: an all-day festival of fireworks, games, sex, music, laughter, and anything else they think would please their deity. The festival often becomes so uproarious that it is outlawed in every capital, but a few cities in Elzveir still let their streets run rampant with the untethered chaos of Kaegn’s Day.

Kaegn's Day. On this day, those cities who do not have strict laws prohibiting the celebration of Kaegn’s Day erupt in absolute chaos. Fireworks fill the skies, deeds best reserved for bedrooms spill into the streets, mead and ale flow like rivers, and friendly competitions and games pop up on every street corner. For the entirety of the day, from its beginning to its end, there is absolutely no order present in those cities that celebrate Kaegn’s Day. For the more civilized people of Elzveir, this means that Erta 19th is a day to lock one’s doors and stay hidden inside until the danger passes. For those who love a bit (or a lot) of chaos, this means that Erta 18th is a day to get drunk, and Erta 19th is a day to get far more drunk. While many cities have strict rules around the celebration of Kaegn’s Day in an attempt to at least keep it manageable should half of those rules be at least loosely followed, some cities have made themselves into tourist destinations with an “anything goes on Kaegn’s Day” policy. Panvila, Folach, and Almahr are the three most unruly cities in Elzveir on Erta 19th.
